May 2004

May 25 - I discovered that the latest release of Super Tux was built for Mac OS X, and mentioned over at MacUpdate.com (along with some nice comments)! Congrats to the crew who's been working on it!

May 23 - Oy, now my back/ribs seem to be out of whack, so I'm going to go to my chiropractor soon to see if he can't fix me. I'm telling you, if it ain't one thing, it's another!

In other news, my brother won an Emmy the other night, for work he did on "Bay Area Backroads," his oldest son Connor just turned 3, and Tux Paint has just been translated into Croatian!

May 20 - A friend spotted a letter of mine that managed its way into Linux Magazine, and I didn't even remember I wrote anything! Well, here's a big scan of it, for your enjoyment. (Thanks, Sameer!)

May 16 - Another week went by with me away from my Linux box! However, my Open Source projects keep chugging away, so I had to catch up with them during the weekend...

We fixed a bug in Tux Paint for Windows, it's being translated into Croatian and Belarusian, and new stamps have been added.

I got a big patch for my old cgi-util web programming library. I got another big patch for the BASIC Stamp Tools for Linux project I helped create last year.

The new crew working on Super Tux have created another excellent release. I'm mostly sitting on the sidelines and making suggestions and complaints, these days. ;^)

LUGOD went to the Government Technology Conference in Sacramento this week, and handed out over 500 discs worth of Open Source software. (Photos)

May 9 - I'm back home for the weekend, and helping LUGOD staff an exhibit booth at the Whole Earth Festival. We're giving out tons of Knoppix and GNUWinII discs!

May 4 - An exciting birthday. One of my lymph-nodes was swollen, so I went to my doctor in Davis to have it checked out. I should be fine. (Whew!) :^)

LUGOD elections are over. I am no longer an elected officer! (I've been either president or vice-president since the beginning, back in January 1999!)

A new version of TheOpenCD was released, and now includes Tux Paint! (Check out the screenshot from their installer!)

And finally, an article on Open Source software that I wrote for the new Conscious Living Magazine (from the Sacramento region) was published in their May issue! I'll link to an online version (or put my own PDF copy up) soon.

May 1 - I'm making my move down to the South Bay today! I'll be living in a room in a house during the summer, then the rest of our possessions will be moving into a more permanent place in the fall. Fortunately, I had time to schedule a small army of volunteers for a pair of exhibit booths LUGOD will be running in May. *Whew!* Now if only I can find a replacement speaker for next week's meeting! D'OH!
