September 2005

September 25 - A blog entry posted yesterday at O'Reilly's Mac developer website gives praise to Tux Paint!

September 19 - Tux Paint is mentioned in the Oct. 2005 issue of Linux Journal!

September 16 - I'm so proud!

September 13 - This last Saturday was this year's Software Freedom Day, a global event where volunteers promote Open Source and Linux. LUGOD in Davis had a booth at the Farmer's Market, which I helped staff.

The incredible thing, though, is that Canonical was shipping, for free, 200 copies of TheOpenCD to most of the volunteer groups. Each one of those discs contains a copy of Tux Paint! Wow!

September 5 - I ripped the fan out of the enclosure and made a hole in the back cover, and now my hard drive for my Atari 8-bit computer is complete. It still looks pretty unprofessional, but better than before. Here's a photo of the finished product.

September 4 - I finally bought the power supply and IDE cable I needed to get an old 2GB hard drive working on my Atari 800XL, thanks to the MyIDE hack (specifically, the professionally made one from Atarimax). Here's a photo of it cobbled together!)

September 3 - Tux Paint is covered in the new book Free Software for Dummies!

I've only seen the table of contents and index (available online), but it looks like 3 pages are devoted to Tux Paint, in Chapter 21: "Learning with Free Educational Software" (specifically, pages 340-342).

September 1 - The new issue of TUX Magazine is out, with an article that Melissa and I wrote about Google Suggest Toolbar for Konqueror. As always, a hella slick looking magazine. (Available as a free PDF download!)
