January 2006

January 29, 2006 - I finally got one of those doo-dads that let you connect a PlayStation controller to a PC. It's a great exuse to dust off old code.

January 26, 2006 - Everyone's probably sick of me talking about Tux Paint so much, but I just did some rough calculations. The latest version has been out 8.5 weeks. It's been downloaded from SourceForge over 83,000 times. That comes out to almost one download per minute, on average! Damn!

January 23, 2006 - Good news, everyone! Futurama is coming back! (Well, four DVD movies.)

January 21, 2006 - I put together a cheap drum pad for my Atari.

January 16, 2006 - So a minor security vulnerability was found in Tux Paint a while back, and since fixed. (It actually only affects Linux/Unix users who decide to run the "tuxpaint-import.sh" script to import photos into Tux Paint, and happen to have an attacker who has an account on their system and can write into their /tmp directory. So when I say "minor", I mean "minor!" ;^))

Anyway, suddenly it was mentioned by Debian (I think because the new version has been included, and hence the security issue is now "fixed" in Debian), and suddenly news comes up on Google. I'm counting this as free advertising. ;^)

Note: To anyone out there who was somehow affected by the vulnerability (and again, I'd be surprised to find out about it!), sorry to make light. It's just funny to see an old issue come up again, and sounding so scary.

January 13, 2006 - You can now buy Tux Paint on CDROM from CafePress!!!

January 12, 2006 - I just received two exciting Tux Paint-related e-mail messages! First, it's been nominated for Computers for Youth's first annual "Family Learning Software of the Year" award! Second, it's going to be included in Computer Hoy magazine's "CD Práctico" N.15 (a CDROM supplement to this Spanish magazine) in February!

January 10, 2006 - A friend of mine from IRC (Steve Groundwater) created art for a "Tux Paint Artist on Board" bumper sticker, now available for purchase! :^)

January 9, 2006 - I've constructed a 2006 wall calendar containing my favorite Tux Paint artwork from the gallery!

January 8, 2006 - There's a cool tool for watching changes to Open Source projects: CIA. Christian has added Tux Paint to it for me!

January 7, 2006 - My friend Christian has started work to get Tux Paint running on the Nokia 770 handheld computer! Check out a photo!

January 4, 2006 - Our first game has been ported to the new Game Park GP2X handheld game system: Vectoroids. Enjoy!

January 2, 2006 - Happy new year! I've created some new Tux Paint apparel at CaféPress.
