On Halloween 2004, Melissa and I joined our friends John and
Patti for a movie-watching party at their place in Sacramento.
However, we had to ditch early to see the Star Trek tribute
band "Warp 11" with our friends Gabe and Marianne in Davis.
My last-minute decision for a costume was to be the video game
'Galaga.' So, I printed up some sprites, pasted them to pins,
and pinned them to a sweater. I bought a cheap (and, sadly,
poorly-made) flashlight that had fiber optic 'whiskers.'
Aside from being impossible to keep on (faulty switch), it was
actually pretty perfect. The fibers were all different lengths,
and different colors. Just what I need for a sparkly starfield
background!

The ships applied to a sweater, and the 'starfield', which is
to go on the inside of the sweater.

The flashlight pinned on the inside of the sweater.

Great! The sweater still fits!
Fast-forward about 4 hours later, and we're in Davis at the
Warp 11 concert...

Melissa (dressed as "vintage porn"), caught one of the balloons
thrown out during the cover of "99 Red Balloons."
The interesting colors to her right is our friend Marianne, dressed
as a hippie.

Warp 11's Kiki, singing "99 Red Balloons."
(She sung in German, and needed to read the lyrics
;^))

The scantily-clad girl there is actually Warp 11's
Captain Karl. That's not his natural hair, either.
(Because, uh, he's bald...)

While there were some great costumes, like a Classic Trek
Klingon, and the characters from the Wizard of OZ,
I really liked this guy's Enterprise t-shirt. (It reminds me of
those gangsta airbrushed shirts of lowriders.)

The bar in Davis that Warp 11 was playing at (the G Street
Pub) happens to have a tabletop version of Galaga! Here I am
playing it.

Another photo of my (dressed as Galaga) playing Galaga.
